Ok then, when Jesus came out of his tomb, the was a brown rabbit nearby. After the light from His ressurection wore down, the rabbit turned white. I heard it when I was young as an attempt to connect the Bunny with the actual meaning of the holiday.

But has anyone else heard this story?

I hadn't heard that, though it couldn't be further from the truth even if the resurrection did happen.

The pagan festival of Eastre happened around the same time of year as when Christians celebrated the resurrection, so like how Saturnalia and other winter festivals got co-opted into being the Christian holiday of Christmas in order to make the transition to Christianity easier for pagans Easter was the result of doing the same to. The symbol of the goddess Eastre was the rabbit (she was a fertility goddess, and rabbits/hares are infamous for their fertility), and that was something that didn't get eliminated in the process.
