Yes, as does the musical "The King and I".

I picture Opebo as a guy that looks almost homeless and refuses to go anywhere without wearing real shoes (no sandals, flip flops... heaven forbid barefoot!)... and generally has greasy looking hair... but manages to smell good.

The fantasy of snowguy is flattering, but not really accurate.  I tend to look fairly 'farang professorial' - Slacks, either black or navy blue if I feel 'Thai style', or khakis if I'm feeling more 'american', with a nice light dress shirt, solid or fine checks, maybe a stripe once in a while.  I even wear long sleeves most of the time, and I wear 'proper office shoes' with socks if I'm in class or a meeting, reverting to kind of 'office sandals' (not really sandals, more like open slip on shoes, in dark brown or black) at other times - but still with black socks!

I know, I've been teased by farang before about wearing black socks with open shoes, but this is normal in Thailand, and in any case the main thing is Thais don't want to see some enormous lilly-white foot exposed in an office setting.  After five or six PM of course I do often dress down, but never I think quite like snowguy is envisioning.

Of course I do, why wouldn't I?  The laundries here are quite reliable - I've hardly ever lost an item.

It certainly is.  Can't say as I've missed the bloody thing.

Sure, it depicts the king in an inaccurate and pejorative way.  He would not have deigned as Yul Brynner did in the film.

On my online World Geography course, there was a section comparing Bangkok to Seattle. It made me think of Opebo.

Sure, meet me on Sukhumvitt next time you're in Krung-Thep.  Or Star-of-Light if you're feeling adventurous.
