Hopefully Dino Rossi doesn't run again. Who could run to make the race competitive? It would be nice to have another West Coast Republican Senator that isn't from Alaska again. Sam Reed seems like a possibility since McKenna is almost certainly going to run for Governor, but are there any state senators or mayors that could give her a run for her money?

I have John Koster running against her in my timeline. He'd be a pretty fresh face. He only lost to Rick Larsen by 2 points.

Isn't he only a councilman though?

Yeah, I just kinda threw that out there.

Still, at this time in 2009, Ron Johnson was just "a guy from Oshkosh"...

It'll probably be Clint Didier. He'll get about 42% of the vote.

The race is doing to be pretty dull.

I'd be amazed if he breaks 40%.

Well who would have thought that Rossi would have been competitive in 04 after only being a state senator. It is a tough climb for any Republican against Cantwell in a Presidential year, but I wouldn't rule out an unknown from the legislature running and making the race at least competitive.

There's a huge difference between an open race for a statewide executive office and a race against a two-term federal incumbent Senator, but whatever. No matter what I say you're going to play the "It could be competitive!" game for the next year like you do with all elections.

Not to mention it's Clint Didier, a guy who has absolutely no appeal to the Washington that matters.
