RFK doesn't run for President in 1968. He stays in the Senate and every thing else happens as it did in RL.

I'm interested in what some of you think would have happend in 1976 if the Democratic ticket didn't have a southerner at the top of it.

Ford was totally inept. He made the election close because Carter was a horrible campaigner in his own right once the general election began. Comments like lust in his heart hurt him greatly.

A more likely choice for VP would be Bentsen, but yeah, that's how it would turn out.

Kennedy/Carter-288
Ford/Dole-250

Ford does not do as good because Kennedy was a better campaigner, and wins the south except for three states.

I don't know, I think Bentesen would draw too many parallels to LBJ, and we already have a Kennedy at the top of the ticket.

Kennedy romps Ford. No doubt about it.

Democrats: Robert F. Kennedy (NY)/Jimmy Carter (GA) - 304
Republicans: Gerald Ford (MI)/Bob Dole (KS) - 234

Kennedy/Carter - 289
Ford/Dole - 249

A weird amalgamation of 1960 and 1968 results in a narrow win for Bobby Kennedy.
