No, not really. How can such a board fail to reflect the culture of its sources? Still, this is the sort of thing that needs pointing out from time to time.

Good point. Now I more fully understand my problems with the economics board.

Really it's to be expected, given the sort of people who take an interest in American politicking.

It was certainly worse when poundingtherock was here, accusing people he argued with of being on welfare and the like.

But of course, there were many of those types on the 2008 board too (the most notable one being ghostmonkey).

I don't know.  He obviously should have been, but he never really posted as frequently as most of the most notorious (non-sock) accounts that have been banned, so he might not have built up enough infraction points quickly enough.  He did stop posting less than two weeks after Nym became "modadmin", but he also stopped posting around the time that a few people started openly referencing his role as a blogger at Conservatives4Palin:

Sure it is -but it serves a useful purpose.  I would rather have the inevitable speculations about the 2012 presidential election here than elsewhere clogging up other boards.

And besides, once the 2012 presidential campaign season gets truly underway with the advent of the first primaries and caucuses, the quality of the threads on this board should improve eventually.

How is it a cesspool? It looks about the same as it has (almost) always looked.

At this point in the process it's no surprise.
