I sometimes wish it was he -and not his father- who was next in line to inherit the throne once Queen Elizabeth II finally passes on to the next world.

Why?

Charlie's not all that popular.

Well, I want to see someone who is actually young enough whom I can relate to on a generational basis become King of Britain (in fact, we are roughly the same age) -and that's before I've even mentioned my desire to see Catherine as a Queen.  Also, I have a higher opinion of William than I do of Charles.  And with the engagement between William and Catherine, this is the first time I have actually become interested in the whole drama surrounding the royal family.

Before, I could care less.

He might be.  Charles turned 62 on the 14th.

I like Charles, he's a bit mad, but he was ahead of the bandwagon on sustainability and urban renewal.

Also, let William and Kate have a life together, I say he's got until he's around 50 before he has to worry about being King, if you look at the Windsor longevity streak (including Prince Philip). Once he's King he'll be so restricted it'll suck away so much of his time and energy.

Presumably to give the National Government a boost in the elections which will be held a few days after.

Surely it'll hurt the SNP and Plaid quite a bit, for obvious reasons...

Hey that's my birthday. Smiley

Oh please, everyone knows the Queen supports Labour. She hated Thatcher, but has been very friendly with most of her Labour PM:s and they very friendly with her.

Well, the Coalition do say that Labour are in favour of families living on state support for generations.

Also of note, Wills and Kate will share an anniversary with the Hitlers.

Technically, no.  The UK was an hour behind, so the Hitlers were married on 4/28/45.  They were married at 12:30 AM on Berlin time, and 11:30 PM on UK time.  Smiley

Hold on; the UK was on Double Summer Time (GMT +2). IIRC, Germany stayed on CET throughout the war. Moscow was two hours ahead of Germany when the war ended at 23:01 CET on 8 May.

I thought of that myself, but the sources I found indicated that in the WWII era, summer time started in May, so Britain wouldn't have been on double summer time in April 1945.

You're right, but it would have been the same time.
