They couldn't sell it instead?

They'll probably try to sell it, yes.

Yeah, that's the goal....but it will be at a huge loss.  India would be my guess.

It depends. If it is old and defective, Canada will buy it. Like we did with those submarines, a few years ago. One was damaged by fire during we were bringing them here and we had to repair all of them during 3 years before using them.

Great buy.

Nah, this will be basically brand new.  Much too nice for the Canadian Navy.

They aren't scrapping it because they would like to be able to go to their holiday cottages in Scotland without being lynched. Think of it as an especially expensive make-work scheme.

Why does Canada need an aircraft carrier?

I don't know, but our government seems to love to buy the old things of the British Army.
You know, that is a way for spending less money.
Military spending is not very liked in Canada, so, government often used things than others armies don't want anymore.
Harper is contested in Parliament by the opposition because he decided to buy brand new planes! It is too expansive, according to them.

True, buying submarines which are taking fire and helicopters which are crashing was so a good idea, when opposition was in power. Especially than most of the money was going to repair them and to make up for their absences for all the "unexpected" mechanical problems...
