Free trade has nothing to do with personal liberty and everything to do with corporate freedom, which I value American workers over.

The fact that only a handful of people engage in a particular activity (in tihs case international trade) does not mean that it is not a matter of personal liberty. Most people do not use methamphetamine, but I would still consider meth use to be a matter of personal liberty.

An issue that I take with the view of business many leftists hold is that they seem to view corporations as wholly artificial entities, when in reality they are directed by businessmen who possess certain basic liberties that they utilize in running the corporation. Corporations lack existential rights; rather, they have those exercised on their behalf by their agents.

Because the teabaggers are radical and extreme opponents of 'freedom', not proponents as they misrepresent themselves.

Exactly.

Because I don't care about guns and have no interest in owning them. I don't mind if other people do though and don't support trying to restrict them.

Not caring does not mean it is not a liberty. You should be out there protesting gun laws like the Tea Partiers should be protesting drug laws.

Financial liberty is a liberty. Financial liberty. See? Let's try that again. Financial liberty.

The Tea Party folks believe that government has become a massive institution that tries to feed itself, and strips individuals of the ability to spend their own money and exercise their own freedoms, without meaningfully making things fairer.  Marijuana prohibition, to someone who believes that, is incredibly small fish.

This topic, boiled down, doesn't say much besides "Why aren't Tea Party people subscribing to my economic priorities?"

Agreed.  For the most part, the Tea Party is taking on the Federal Government.  California laws are, for the most part, a local issue to be dealt with by the local groups.

To fit BRTD's example, he should be asking why isn't the Tea Party working to change the federal classification of marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule II controlled substance?

There is no such thing.

You know things have got pretty crazy when the demographics that make up the teabaggers are radically against authority and the punks and hipster types are pro-government.

They aren't even the slightest little bit opposed to authority, BRTD.  They are slavish boot-licking advocates of our absolute enslavement to the rich.

Pro-government is pro-rich... not the other way around.

Roll Eyes Yes, thank God for all those "power to the people" teabagger psuedo-libertarians fighting hard to slash high earner income taxes and stifle oversight of the banking and polluting indutries.

You "libertarians" may not have a clue about whose economic interests lassiaz-faire economic philosophy helps, but you've sure got the slogans down pat.

So do you favor de-criminalization or legalization of marijuanna, Badg (other than for medical use)?  You can put restrictions and caveats to your answer, I don't expect yes/no.  Wink

Put simply... they are mostly conservative Republicans.  That is all.
