In any case, the LP is by far the best party in the US right now.

Why do all the libertarians hate Wayne Allyn Root so much?

He endorsed Joe Lieberman, for starters. He was also held very interventionist views against Iran until he realized that wouldn't get him anywhere at the LP convention. Additionally, his main argument against Obama is a bizarre argument having to do with attending Columbia simultaneously.

I wouldn't be surprised if Barr was planted by the GOP to neutralize the LP's potential to 'spoil' the election for them.

...

This might be the dumbest thing you've ever said on the forum.

The choices in 2008 were Barr, Gravel, W.A.R., a woman who wants to legalize child pornography, this guy, a convicted felon, a man who voted for a candidate other than himself as a convention delegate, and this woman.

(I would have voted for Gravel at the convention).

Ruwart is a principled libertarian whose alleged "advocacy" of child pornography was a straw man put out by WAR misrepresented statements she made about age-of-consent laws. Political prisoner is a better term than convicted felon, considering that Kubby was imprisoned for medical cannabis.

Agreed.
Personally Steven Kubby was my top choice for the Libertarian nomination.  Sure he sucked as a speaker, had a ridiculous tan, but with his history as a victim of this nation's drug laws as well as his very libertarian views he would've been the perfect nominee to sticking it to the two big parties.  Ruwart would've had more of a chance and was also a great candidate, but alas the WAR machine had it's way at the 2008 convention.

Also I can't stress how much of a joke the Libertarian Party would be if they ran Murkowski as their candidate.  I mean really Joe Miller is probably a lot closer to being libertarian than she is, judging from his wikipedia page.

Frankly, the LP is run by purists, who would probably consider me a statist. It is sad, because they could win 15% of the vote regularly if they accepted everybody who was fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I found this humorous graphic that summarizes their general attitude:

That's pretty ridiculous. The party that nominated Bob Barr is a lot of things, but purist is not one of them.

If you go around to libertarian party member forums, they'll tell you nominating Barr was a terrible decision. I happen to agree, but we come to different conclusions. They say it was because he wasn't "pure" enough, while I think he was opportunistic and too socially conservative.

As a person that followed the nomination process for the Libertarian Party in 2008, Bob Barr was infinitely better than Mary Ruwart (his main opponent from what I call "the anarchist wing of the party" which was a very purist libertarian that saw no issue with possessing child pornography). Barr got pushed over the finish line by Wayne Allyn Root giving Barr his support in exchange for the vice presidential slot although I think Barr cared nothing for Root's politics.

This could actually be a huge blow to the two major parties (particularly the ultra socially conservative individuals of them... i.e. Palin losing any remote chance of ever becoming president).

I never understood why the Libertarian Party refused to pick up moderate Republicans in addition to the strong fi-cons it has now. It provides a much better base in terms of politicians and supporters. It also allows the United States to move into the libertarian direction.

That said, the corruption and politics of Murkowski would need to change for it to be highly successful (I actually really don't like her, but Alaskans do). I really don't see a failure being too bad of a PR nightmare, however. It's not like the Libertarians have much ground to lose.

The ideology is great and all, but if they cannot reach out, how would Libertarians be any better than the neocons and statists in the two major parties?

LOL, that's hilarious. Good one, Vep. Grin

Well, purists compared to everybody except you Tongue

Considering a true libertarian--rather than the GOP-lite versions predominating in and out of the LP--would have views on most social issues to the left of Pelosi, I'd reconsider that assessment.
