They don't mention Santorum, who's made four stops to Iowa in the past year, but the overall point is still correct.  The early stage of the "invisible primary" (not just in Iowa, but everywhere) is more low key than last time.  McCain and Romney waged particularly aggressive invisible primary campaigns in 2006, in which they were trying to get their own surrogates in power in the state party in Michigan for example.  That level of pre-campaign is simply not being matched by anyone this time around.

That's because everyone knows it will be Palin. The other posers know that as soon as they start seriously posing, the sooner they will have to face reality, and they are putting that off for obvious reasons (aka because they are posers).

You mean everyone knows Palin will win the Iowa caucus or become the nominee? Or both?

I read 538's analysis of the primaries, and it showed that Palin could compete pretty well in there, but that scenario didn't include Huckabee, who would siphon votes and delegates from her.   Do you have any of those Iowa numbers, by the way?  Not doubting you, I just want to see specifically how she's doing.
