I remember 5 years ago, posting the announcement of Michaelle Jean, and remembering opebo saying she was hot. Our next governor general is a white male, David Lloyd Johnston. See the article here: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/07/08/governor-general-johnston.html

I am happy they are sticking with my order (french female, english male, french male, english female) order that has been in place since Jeanne Sauve.  It's a phenomena I've discovered as a solution to the need to switch between females and males while keeping the tradition of switching between english and french.

Cool. Good to have my school have a higher profile, and hopefully we'll have a more effective admin than we have now.

Well, it was quasi-certain it'd be a white guy. For what it's worth anyways, GGs are useless waste of money and ought to be abolished along with the all shazam. Long live republicanism, yaddi yadda.

lol, political correctness.

Anyway, I'm with Hashemite - Canada should become a republic and so should Britain.

Do Canadians like being ruled by the queen?

I've always had that impression...I suppose it gives them something further to distinguish themselves from Americans on.

It's not like that was an entirely serious comment...

I didn't get that impression, but I certainly hope you're right.

They aren't ruled by the Queen. But I'd guess that most are pretty apathetic about the monarchy-g.g. system. At least with the present incumbent.

Hopefully this guy won't be as much of a pushover as Jean.

Did Jean have to prorogue Parliament in 2008, or could she have refused Harper's request? I wanted her to say no, because I supported the broad coalition taking over. But on the other hand I consider Whitlam's dismissal in Australia to be an outrage, something that shouldn't happen in a democracy. I suppose thats being either hypocritical or just partisan.

I used to think the U.S. should be in the Commonwealth, but not anymore.

You can be a Republic and still be in the Commonwealth. Only  thing you have to accept is the Queen being head of the Commonwealth.
