All readers of the Atlasian Social Democrat, allow me to introduce to you the Soundoff board for special questions that we'd like to ask our readers. First up...

Why do you support or oppose a legislative reboot?

Tell us and make your voice heard. Best comments will be quoted in the Atlasian Social Democrat.

This is about as best as I can put it:

The history of this game lays not in the laws that are passed, but in the evolution of the issues that we confront as one people and in the rise and fall of parties and personalities. Remembering the contributions of Boss Tweed to the founding of the game, remembering Colin's time as president, remembering the rise of the JCP and the united Left under bgwah, and the RPP and the regional sovereignty movement under DWTL, PiT, Duke and SPC; those are all more important than the legislation that was passed along the way.

Yet, when a person joins the game and wants to get involved, it is the lengthy list of laws that they see first, not the history transmitted by word of mouth. And that is intimidating.

Clearing the legislation will not suddenly abolish the history of this game. It will simply be another piece of it, and an important step towards making sure that the game's future is just as dynamic as its founding.

I think the current way it's been snuck into the concon is not really honest, so I don't support it in that format, but as a general idea, I think it is a great idea.

What the game needs is not a legislative re-start, but rather a consolidation/re-organization of the existing statute, so that it is not so intimidating and cumbersome to lumber through.  My thoughts are to create an index on the wiki, alphabetical by subject matter.  As President, I will work to make this happen.

Amen! I believe I'd also suggested something like this, codifying current statutes under a numerically organized code similar to the U.S.C.

Once I have the budget and some storylines up, I'm all about helping on this.

Andrew? Duke? What are your thoughts here?

That's actually a good idea, and I'd probably be a bit more comfortable doing that than a full blown legislative reboot if the only reason we are doing the reboot is so the current wiki won't be so cluttered and unorganized. Perhaps the problem that needs to be solved is to better organize the current laws rather than to scrap them all in a reboot.

Another problem I have with a full blown reboot is that all the laws I've debated and the few I've authored were essentially for nothing. My entire time in the Senate would be for nothing. That would suck. Tongue

Atlasia will always be first and foremost about elections. If a legislative reboot gets debate going and issue-based elections and parties, then I'm all for it. I have never been in the Senate, granted, and have only been here a year and a half, but I always saw the governing as a means to an end (in this case, competitive elections).

So would my time in the Senate and in the Regional Assembly. Granted, I only served one Senate term, but it was the most fun I had with the game. But hey, don't let it getcha down Smiley Keep smilin.
