He's announced that indeed he will run.

His first big hurdle--actually securing a place on the ballot.  No way MJM is going to just let him waltz into the race.  He's going to get every Democratic operative attorney out there to comb over SLC's petitions to make sure he gets the boot.

He's just following the Blair Hull example and wants to do whatever it takes to win, eventhough it will cost his party the election. Once people find this out, they won't listen to him.

Well, Cohen's effect on Illinois politics is bigger than a quixotic indie bid:

I think that even with the lack of enthusiasm on the part of Dems statewide, I think there is a distinct difference and which party loyalty will win out and Cohen will stand alone in his independent bid and the Dems will eventually unite behind Quinn, because Brady is too conservative with his regressive minimum wage decrease for the state of Illinois.

I found the last paragraph of that article rather amusing:

He's in and he has already stated that he intends to solve the state's budget crisis by 'shooting all public officials'
I thought we in Illinois hit the low point with the Alan Keyes fiasco a few years back, but it looks like were in for another circus.  God help us!!!

Yesterday Cohen announced a running mate, Baxter Swilley, who served as a Cohen staffer during the primary. The ticket needs 25 K valid signatures filed by June 21 to get on the ballot.

Cohen will indeed need 25K 'legitimate' signatures.

This will be the most copied and picked over petition filed in Illinois Board of Elections     history.  Democratic lawyers are already gearing up to have their definition of a 'valid' signature as the one the Elections Board uses. (Illinois has no partisan registration, but the Dems argument is that by voting in a particular primary, there is a 'de-facto' partisan registration.  Therefore anybody who voted in the primary is registered to a particular party and can not sign the petitions of an independent candidate.  I belive this has already been tossed out of court in Illinois, but it will not stop the Dems from pouring big bucks into derailing Cohen's candidacy.)
Now if we could only get MJM to put half as much effort into solving the state's fiscal problems--that's a dream!!

I don't necessarily think that this is a loss for the Dems, they had Eli Whitley on the ballot anyway, I suspect that the bulk of support will go to now Cohen instead of Whitley or vise versa and not split the vote in favor of Brady.

Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin.

Rich Whitney was the 2006 Green Party nominee.

Huge Huge Difference there WEB

Whitney is actually on the ballot.  I sincerely doubt Cohen will get on.  Whether Whitney gets as many votes as last time remains to be seen, but I'd be willing to bet he gets the requisite 5% to keep the Greens ballot spot in Illinois.

Cohen is submitting 133,000 signatures. I think he's a pretty safe bet to get on the ballot now.

  It's Illinois.

Cohen aint on till he's actually on!!!

The court proceedings will probably drag out well beyond November.
Anyone who thinks differently doesn't have a grasp as to how thing work here.

Fair ballot access and a level playing field are about as fictional as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny in this state.

I'll consider Cohen a bonafide candidate when he actually gets on!!
