Any year/VP you want.

Hmm, two candidates from opposing parties who only really won the South historically. That's going to be an interesting one to predict.

my take on it, with a climate similar to 1960. (Used the 1960 map.)

Goldwater DOMINATES the West, but pulls out narrow victories in the South. PV is relatively close.

Yeah, I would guess it would depend on whether Stevenson were able to make the campaign all about foreign policy the way Johnson did in '64.

Uh.. why does the liberal Stevenson take Nevada, and why do MS/AL vote NOTA when both candidates are segregationist, one of which being very conservative?

well, goldwater was 'pro states rights' and i remember reading that stevenson would've let segregation continue. not really SEGREGATIONIST in the context of the word, my mistake.

I agree with this map. Goldwater was an extremist--he said that he was okay with using tactical nuclear weapons on the Soviet Union and Soviet allies. Stevenson is the only safe, sane, and rational choice.

Vietnam was not an issue in 1960. thus, it's unknown if he'd make such a remark as the question wouldnt be asked. plus there would be no "Daisy" ads to destroy Goldwater with.

I still question why MS/AL are uncommitted, despite VP picks. Even with a man like Humphrey on the ticket, MS/AL would just vote R.

Goldwater would've started his movement even stronger.
