If the Conservatives fail to win enough seats to become at least the largest party in Parliament, or fail to form a government after May 6th.

What happens to David Cameron as leader of the Conservatives?

Is he going to be sacked as leader or by some miracle will he stay on? In addition, what direction will the Conservative Party go in, for example will it move away from the center and move further right or will it stay on the same ambiguous ideological path it is now?

Any opinions?

If he can't win a majority, he'll stay on and win the next election. If Labour gets a majority outright, then he'd likely go the way of Kinnock.

If it looks like another election will be fought I expect him to stay on. If not, I expect him to stand down. I still anticipate in that event the next leader is likely to be Michael Gove.

In a 1974 Wilson situation for Labor, Cameron stays.  Same if Cameron is in the Wilson role, obviously.  A solid Labor victory, Cameron goes (probably to the Lords).
