If you successfully obstruct the recon. bill though, you end up with a far worse bill than you would have otherwise, including all of the famous Cornhusker Kickbacks and whatnot.

The recon. bill is only like 9 pages long too.

Well, that seems to be the GOP's goal (make the bill as bad as possible so that they can maximize their political advantage).

But yeah, it's a delicate balancing act. By obstructing the reconciliation bill, the GOP is technically the one making the bill worse at this point. I guess they are just hoping voters won't be able to figure that out.

Yeah, opposing the recon bill at this point proves (if we didn't know it already) that the GOP's position is just simply that if Obama favors something, they are against it, and that their electoral strategy is to try to make the Dems look as incompetent as possible.
