We're not anywhere close to the Pearl Harbor anniversary (December 7), but I'm curious since President Obama is a Hawaii native.  What would happen if one of our adversaries in the far east were to attack one of our biggest naval ports, say San Diego?  How would the administration handle it?  Would they handle it in the same way that President Roosevelt handled the 1941 attack or would the technological improvements made in the last 70 years plus the terrorism fears of the last 20 years starting with Waco and Oklahoma City and 9/11.

I think this is different than if the terrorists attacked the World Series, for example, because I'm talking about a military base being attacked, not a civilian venue.

Little would need to be done; the government that ordered the attack would not last long. American cultural dominance is so great that attacking it would be like, to use an example from Foundation, Anacreon attacking Terminus.

Man, I'm not sure if we'd be that worse off to surrender to the Japanese.  I mean, the yen might not be that bad to convert to, and it's not like the Japanese products we buy aren't made in Mexico or China anyway.

I'd rate it a B+ in terms of career moves for America to make.  Being conquered by Japan would be like being asked by the 5th prettiest girl at school to the dance.  Not as bad as it seems on paper.  Y'know?

1.the scenario is impossible (at least virtually impossible) with our current military capabilities.

B.If by some ridiculously minute chance it was half successful it would just be that much worse for the nation (PRC) that pulled it off.  If they try and fail miserably we'd just blow the fark out of all their top offensive and defensive weapons and force them to the peace table (we ain't going to occupy China, but we may hand it over to the ROC).  If they were to somehow hurt us in their "Pearl Harbor" attack they (the Chinese) would be moderately nuked.  Maybe 20-60 targets.

III.let me say again that the scenario is ridiculously small and worse case scenario, we lose a few thousand men and China is free, but mildly radioactive

What adversaries in the Far East? Such things don't exist.

China and America, "Chimerica", are too interwoven economically to ever contemplate war.

This isn't going to happen, and thus I will not bother answering this question. However, I agree with what dead0man wrote.

The only real military enemy America has in the "Far East" is North Korea and they'd be much more likely to attack South Korea first.  After that, the international community would immediately retaliate resulting in North Korea's quick demise.

^^This^^

Because of the economic relationships we have with Asia, not even Vietnam considers us an enemy anymore.  Only North Korea would challenge us and they'd find much more pleasure attacking S. Korea or Japan over us.

Nice scenario, too bad that it misses a few, minor, unimportant details.
Of course the whole scenario is absurd from the beginning - it was insane even then and it's even more insane now.
