FDR lives to serve out his full term, and drops the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Engagements with the Soviet Union are rapidly deteriorating as Roosevelt and Stalin begin to clash.  FDR oversees the creation of the UN, but despite speculation, does not become the first Secretary General. In 1948, he runs for a fifth term, again choosing Truman as his running mate. Dewey is once again nominated, and chooses Warren as his running mate. Discuss with maps.

FDR wins with 297 EV. If Truman could beat Dewey, then Roosevelt could have as well. I'm thinking the race would have been closer than in RL due to Roosevelt fatigue and since Dewey would have likely run a more energetic campaign against FDR. BTW, could you please respond to my thread (which is right below this one)?

Huh, I'd assume that FDR would manage to keep his coalition together and the Dixiecrats wouldn't form.

Sure, I'll answer.

Thank you. BTW, I think FDR would have likely desegregated the U.S. Army as Truman did in order to make sure that blacks remain a solidly Democratic voting block. He might wait until after the election, but I'm not sure, so I decided to have him desegregate the Army before the election in this scenario as Truman did. IL might vote for Dewey in this scenario, but FDR would win nonetheless without IL.
