Calling Obama's record on gun violence during his first year in office an "abject failure," the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence said Obama has broken campaign promises and failed to show leadership on the issue.

the NRA also grades him at 'F' and I'm sure we all can imagine why.

The Brady Campaign's grade makes sense, but the NRA is just full of a bunch of stupid rednecks. Obama might not be a raving gun-supporter but will all the shit he's let go through without opposition, signed, and refused to bring up (like the AWB) there's no way any objective individual could give him an "F."

The NRA grade was his grade as a Senator going into he 2008 election (source: http://www.newwest.net/topic/article/brady_campaign_and_nra_agree_give_obama_f_on_gun_issue/C41/L41/)

"Because he's a Democrat," perhaps? Not that the Brady Campaign is much better with regards to Republicans, but the Brady Campaign has zero influence.

A nice example of how Obama's attempts to please everybody have pleased nobody. Mr. Obama, you won. Act like it.

I feel like this is almost a good sign. When both extremes are angry at you then you know that you are governing correctly. Though I don't completely understand the Brady campaign as gun violence has gone down recently...

But they didn't grade him on what he's done as President.  The "F" is an old grade.

No, it means that you're a spineless moderate hero.

I was unaware that any gun legislation was pending. I thought Dems had decided to abandon guns as an object of concern, and just pretend that they didn't exist or something. Anyway, giving rating on guns, when the issue has disappeared from the public square (at least the elected officials' public square), seems well odd to me. What am I missing here?

The rating from the NRA is old - that's what you're missing.

That the people at the NRA and the Brady group want to keep their jobs and the only way to do that is to keep donations flying in and the only way to do that is to keep their "issue" in the news and as you say, the Dems have dropped the topic (because they picked the wrong side).  The best way to get back in the news (that doesn't involve a shooting spree by a citizen with a concealed carry permit) is by giving somebody on their side a big fat F.

Inks.LWC says that the rating is old. Is he incorrect? Because if not, many of these replies—including the ones that post-date his initial comment—are nonsensical.
