Why are some socialists so totalitarian?

Because socialism is a form of economic totalitarianism.
---
Different people have different ideas of what libertarianism is. According to some, Schwarzenegger and Giuliani are libertarian because they are "fiscally conservative and socially liberal". Others seem to believe that religion and libertarianism are incompatible. I disagree with both.

Beck will be a libertarian as long as the Democrats control Congress and the White House (just like the Republicans are actually being conservative). Once the Republicans regain control of both, he won't be libertarian and Republicans won't be conservative.

Beck's not a libertarian at all.

Convenient, isn't it, how many of these kneejerk reactionary right-libertarians intentionally forget that the word "libertarianism" was first coined to describe anarcho-socialism?

Bernie Sanders is more libertarian than most other members of Congress.

This is, actually, very true.

Yes, doesn't he support gun rights?

And I know he opposed the bailouts.

That's a very low standard!

as are most household pets.  But that doesn't mean my cat Loki should be ruling the country just because he's more libertarian than Harry Reid.

I trust your cat Loki to do less damage running the country now than 99% of all elected officials over the past 25 years.
