I'm hoping that the Heritage foundation critique of the health care plan is overly alarmist when it claims that the new personal health insurance mandate will require the average family to spend about 15,000 dollars  a year in health insurance. Right now we spend about 30 or 40% of that as we have a high deductible policy.  I sure hope the mandate won't be that bad.  Of course there is the low to moderate income subsidy to help pay for this, but with so many people likely to be using it, we might be looking at a huge new entitlement program.

So prices are going to rise by about 300-400%? That doesn't make any sense. Or maybe they are talking about individuals buying health insurance and they are discounting any effect the health exchanges might have. I know this bill sure as hell won't affect my family except for providing a safety net.

Its not that prices would rise so much, but that people will be required to purchase much more insurance than I' currently am.  Right now, I have about a 3,000 dollar deductible, and I'm getting the impression that such a plan wouldn't meet the minimum personal health insurance mandate. I hope I'm wrong, and that as Pres. Obama said, noone will be required to change insurance. (or words to that effect IIRC).

I think it only applies if you are buying insurance from the exchange.
