There were places where Nader beat Bush in 2000, but for the real pure ultra-liberalism, a harder test is for Nader to have come in 2nd in 1996, when his national campaign was way less known plus there was another third-party protest candidate.

The only place I can find is Ward 1 precinct 4 in Ithaca NY, which voted Clinton 69 Nader 14 Dole 12 Perot 4. (In 2000 Nader got 28%, more than double Bush, and in '08, Obama got 91%. It is not a campus precinct.) But are there any others? There might be some in San Francisco, though the atlas doesn't have precinct data for it.

It happened several times in Alaska. Nader actually fell only one vote short of winning Tenakee from Clinton, plus he finished second to Dole in Edna ba Naukati and second to Clinton (by a long way) in Port Alexander, all of which are in District 5. Nader tied Dole for second in Juneau #2 in District 3.

Nader finished second to Clinton at Kaulana Pueo Church in Maui County, Hawaii as well.

Hmm, interesting. From a quick wikipediation the Alaska ones all seem to be tiny and mostly white panhandle villages - do you know what the place in Hawaii is like?

I don't know the extent of the precinct, but the Church is near the northeast coast of the island of Maui near the rather isolated village(?) of Huelo. Tiny place, no idea about the demographics.

My precinct in Bellingham, WA came sort of close:

67% Clinton
13% Dole
11% Nader
3% Perot

I don't have the numbers, but it almost certainly happened in Waldron, San Juan County, Washington. Alcon can confirm this. It probably also happened in the Evergreen State College precinct(s) in Olympia, WA.

Waldron Island:

Clinton 63%
Nader 24%
Dole 9%
Perot 3%
Browne 2%
Moorehead 1%

...Coincidentally, no Republican has done better there since.

Also the two precincts that make up Evergreen State College outside of Olympia, Nader came in a strong second.
Clinton 223, Nader 174 Dole 6 Perot 6 Others 28

(spelling corrected) A precinct that since has been amalgamated not once but twice, first (before 2000) with Point Baker into Northern Prince of Wales, and then (in 2008) into Klawock.
Alaska feels it's okay to force isolated communities to vote by mail.
