Do you think there's a possibility that the 2012 Iowa Caucuses will actually be held in December 2011?  The reason I ask is there was a lot of debate when the date of Iowa 2008 was being decided.

I hope not.

Let's not drag this out.  I'd rather get back to a primary/caucus schedule like 1988.

Only if some other state ends up being even more aggressive than Michigan was in 2008 in terms of early scheduling, thereby pushing IA and NH even earlier.  That's less likely to happen this time, as the Dems (presumably) won't have a contested nomination race in 2012, so they have little incentive to engage in even more frontloading.  So only states with total GOP control of both the legislature and the governor's office are likely to do something like that this time, and there are only so many such states out there.

I pray to the nonexistant gods that this doesn't happen. We get two years of non-stop politics now, this could make it bleed into late 2010.

Here's something I read the other day. It has to do with primaries, but not in the USA. I was looking at Presidential elections in Uruguay and read about their process. This is how it works: each party has a national open primary and candidates left and right can run as they see fit. However, in order for a party to make it to the general election, the party must receive at least 500 votes nationwide.
