I think it was due to the fact that the economy began to recover from the Recession of 1946-7 and due to the fact that Dewey was uncharismatic and did not spend enough time attacking Truman for his poor economic record, which he should have done.

Dewey took everything for granted and did not even moves his ass. Truman did.

Also, Humphrey DNC adress cost Dixiecrat rebelion, but caused heavy Black turnout in key states.

Polling suggesting that Dewey would easily defeat Truman were taken five weeks prior to election day. Thus, the widespread disbelief that the President "surprisingly" won re-election contributing to questions still asked to this day.

Dewey quit campaigning with about a month to go. Because of that, Truman gained lot's of votes the pollsters did not know about until election night.

He was kinda charismatic in that speech. However, I think that speech was more an exception than the rule. I read that he often campaigned and spoke in a much more boring style than in the above clip. Also, I don't really think Dewey talked enough about Truman's mediocre economic record on the campaign trail, which I think was also a factor in Dewey's defeat (as I previously mentioned).

Yes, he was quite bland. If I recall, a journalist covering hte campaign summarzied his etump speech as "th economy should be good, the streams should be clean, nad our children should be in school"
