Yes. And the footage of the rampaging anti-fascists 'storming' the BBC has just formed the basis of BNP literature and election broadcasts for the next election.

Great way to make the BNP, for a second, look close to sane guys.

EDIT: Also nice to see the wonderful irony in SWPers who pal about with anti-semites being at the forefront of this demonstration.

He appears to have been less than entirely impressive.

Bonnie Greer gave the best performance out of all the panelists imo.

She was wonderful.

Overnight figures suggest 8 million people watched it which is likely to be the highest rated programme on the BBC this week.

YouGov (For the Telegraph) has done a reaction poll.

http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/blog/archives/2324

I'm amazed at how many people watched it. I'm in secondary school (year 11) and most people I spoke to today had watched it. I've never seen the country so politically motivated over one event as it has been for the past two days.

I thought it was a disgusting spectacle to be honest, and these are the reasons why.

1. Nick Griffin didn't answer the questions properly and was very very vague about his policies in general. He couldn't take things well and resorted to underhand comments such as the Jack Straw one.

2. The audience was HEAVILY biased against the BNP. In fact, most of the show was spent trying to re-organise things after EVERYONE decided to speak at once.

3. Jack Straw was unable to admit his failure on anything and instead resorted to, again, very vague comments.

4. The anti-fascist nutters outside calling for the BNP to be 'smashed' and so on were just even more of a joke. They want to combat anti-democratic parties by demanding they be banned and refused freedom of speech? What the hell is wrong with their logic?

That said, I thought Bonnie Greer did well in particular.

Yeah, she was amusing and certainly eloquent. I thought the Liberal rep. also did well at points, although ultimately it was all too fleeting.

Jack Straw, unfortunately, was certainly the weakest panelist, although I suppose I expected that.

Like I said, he did rather patheticly. He seemed to not be able to debate properly, and simply came out looking weak and was as vague as Griffin was really.

1. I agree.

2. 94.9% didn't vote for the BNP in the European Elections, so the UK is also heavily biased aganist the BNP.

3. I agree.

4. Fair enough.

Bonnie Greer's comment about the Ice Age really made me laugh.

Yeah well... Most people didn't vote Labour in 2005, so techically, everyone is biased.

Sadly so. I'd vote Liberal if they pulled their tongue out of the EU's ass and started advocating more conservative fiscal policies.

I thought Straw did quite well, though his style isn't to everyone's liking. It shouldn't be a surprise that the audience was biased against the BNP when the BNP is easily the most hated political organisation in the country - yes, they have a few supporters (and they seem to be motivated enough to get them seats in low turnout elections), but most people would rather drink battery acid than vote for them. I still think it was a mistake to have Griffin on, of course. But if you're going to have someone like that on such a programe, you cannot treat them as though they were a normal panellist.

Greer was very good though. And I was dreading a train-wreck with Warsi (she's been terrible on such programmes in the past) and was pleased that this didn't happen. Though quite why Chris "The Fringe" Huhne was on there, I don't know... I'm sure the LibDems could find a minority like the other parties managed to (Straw, though an Anglican, is ethnically Jewish). Or at least someone who isn't quite so screamingly bourgeois.

In a hypothetical election that mattered where the only two candidates were a BNPer and a ''Christian'' Party zombie and without the option of doing anything other than voting for them, the BNPer would get my vote. I would prefer a few kicks to the stomach than being hauled to a 'clinic'.

Of course thank goodness such scenarios can only happen in nightmares...or possibly the Western Isles Tongue

Most people would be surprised to learn that they're still around.

Isn't the National Front just the BNP with added violence anyway?

The BNP isn't NEARLY as racist as the NF
