Gingrich hasn't been testing the presidential waters in a high profile way, as Pawlenty and Romney have, but he still claims to be open to the possibility of a run:

I don't read too much into that, I read it as just a pseudo-philosophical way of him saying "but if duty requires me to...."

It's of course important to note that Gingrich has no real intention to run in 2012, but wants to keep it open as a possibility so that everyone pays more attention to him....so he is forced to word his answers to 2012 questions very abstractly.

Oh, I understand that.  I just thought it was kind of hilarious for him to put it so melodramatically.  Like "Yes, I'm so awesome that I might be compelled to become your president, to save you from electing some yahoo."

He used some similar phrasing in 2008, IIRC.

I like it better than Bachmann's [and many others'] "I'll pray on it and if God asks me to run, then I shall"
