You are President George H. W. Bush. You decided to drop Dan Quayle from ticket. Who would be your running-mate then?

Of course, he would of chosen John H. Sununu, if he would of had to do it all over again. He was the younger version of himself.

Except he wasn't born in the US.

I'd have taken Governor Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. of South Carolina.

Former Governor James Thompson "Big Jim Thompson" of Illinois.

In fact, Bush should have picked Thompson in 1988, although I am not certain if Thompson would have accepted.

In 1988, but in 1992, Campbell would've been perfect.  He could've hit Clinton in the South, and would have saved at least Georgia, plus maybe some states in other places as well.

Governor Pete Wilson of California.

Yeah, because Wilson really would have swung California into Bush's favour.

Before any of you newbies decide to jump down my throat let me say this: there will be no point explaining myself on the matter of a Bush/Wilson ticket in 1992. It has been a favourite topic on this board in particular for a long period of time, hell even before I first joined these forums in 2006! One only has to search this forum itself to discover as to why.

Keeping Quayle on the ticket was one of the greatest stupidities of the decade. Only McCain did worse by picking Palin...

Well, who else ? Maybe Dole to please conservatives, though not sure it would work...

If i was Bush in 92 Quayle would be off the ticket and replaced with someone like Pete Domenici, a Hispanic on the republican ticket would bring more states into play and challenge the demoracts popularity amongst Hispanics as well as signalling a fresh start for the Bush adminsteration. Colin Powell might also have made an interesting VP choice.
