...but this nation is something special. It was even hailed at its conception across the world as "a beacon of hope."

So what? Destiny is a ridiculous concept. This is a little too jingoistic for me.

All I mean is, did something occur that changed the country's future. Destiny was just a synonym for it.

Everything changes the future.

Ugh, yes, but all I was saying is did something occur to change America's fate from a great neutral nation to become a world policeman.

America has never been this "neutral nation" that Americans of a certain political stripe like to delude themselves it was. Ask the Canadians.

Héhé. It's funny to see how the story telling can be something very sweet...

Each nation is special. There are just some that take the advantage on other ones, before their turn to be dominated, etc...

The destiny, you believe in it or not, but it works or not for everything, a butterfly, a stone, a human, or a nation.

If the question was: did America changed from the idea it had of itself at the beginning and of what it thought it should have been in the future? Personally, I don't know its history enough to answer.

To say something sweet to your ears, I would just say that maybe the US, maybe by putting freedom so forth during its history, and by giving some real accomplishment to this, achieved some things for the history of humanity, but US are not something which is born from nowhere, US is the fruit of an history of the world, it's just the materialization of a process which is a consequence of other things... (sorry, I couldn't be sweet that much Grin).

Even Better; Ask the Mexicans - or the Native Americans.
