Who uses 2d? That looks too much like "second dimension."

What the hell is 2d? No rational person has used that. Ever.

When citing case law in a legal document, some reporters are cited using "2d" rather than "2nd".  The same goes when identifying a certain judicial department.

Here's a citation exhibiting both instances:

With that being said, there is no evidence that the creators of legal citation manuals were, by any means, "rational".

I kinda like Philip peppering the Forum Community board with Bluebook citation issues.

When citing case law in a legal document, some reporters are cited using "2d" rather than "2nd".

In Bluebook form, "2d" is used consistently. E.g., State v. Jensen, 429 N.W.2d 445 (N.D. 1988); Henry Campbell Black, Handbook on the Construction and Interpretation of the Laws (2d ed. 1911).

My favorite Bluebook rule is the one that tells us "[t]he underline beneath the combined signal see, e.g., is continuous up to but not including the second comma." Whoever came up with that rule was probably drunk, and perhaps insane.
