Gardner's fundraising has been pretty low all cycle. I'm guessing he wants to get out of the House and figures he'll at least give the Senate a shot rather than just retire.
And he wasn't polling strong:
April: Udall 49% Gardner 39%
And he will still fall Ken Buck.

My first gut reaction says he wins. Gardner's Tea Party, but not crazy like Buck is. He's a rising star in the party, and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he clears the field.

Couple that with the anti-Democratic fervor in the state overall and I'm very worried about this seat.
So am  I. I don't think Udall is a strong candidate.

And Gardner voted to extend the US PATRIOT Act in 2011. Perfect, I hope Udall will attack him about this issue!

I'm confident about this race. Seriously, republicans could be extremely competitive if they ran "social" moderate, fiscal conservative candidates. That doesn't seem the case for Gardner.

So... if the Republicans had put up Congressman Mike Coffman, you think that the GOP would have a better chance?
Not really. They would have a better chance if they had put up a social liberal fiscal conservative republican.

Well, we will see. I'm probably too optimistic about this race.

Well, I will move this race from Lean D to toss up. Even if I still believe Udall will win, (because LOL supporting personhood in Colorado), this will be definitely highly competitive.

If Gardner wants to run on being a SoCon in Colorado, where the GOP's biggest problem is being to socially conservative, then he should go right ahead.

Only slightly less stupid than your "It seems no one besides hacks care about this Kathleen Kane story" comment.

I'm sorry, Sen. Ken Buck and Gov. Tom Tancredo clearly prove me wrong on this. And don't forget current Rep. Marilyn Musgrave!

That proves that social conservatism is the GOP's biggest problem? Every person you named had a history of making idiotic, extreme statements. That doesn't mean social conservatism in general is the party's biggest problem. You really struggle with the simple things, dude.
Social conservatism is the GOP's biggest problem in Colorado. If the CO republican party nominated people with fiscal conservative and social moderate views, they would probably this state easily.
The personhood amendment failed badly in Colorado: 30-70, something like that.

No, sorry Sawx but I disagree with you. Buck made some gaffes, but he's definitely not Akin. He's just an extremely social conservative who didn't support abortion in case of rep. During his campaign, he didn't make an Akin comment (he would have lost by a much bigger margin).

The CO republican party definitely needs to moderate itself socially, ending their opposition to same sex marriage, and being much less pro-life, if they want to win in a neutral year.

Didn't Buck compare homosexuality to alcoholism at some point?
It's much more a far right social conservative comment than an Akin comment.

Coburn too has made some homophobic comments. Is he Todd Akin? No

Udall +4.
Important divide between men and women, as usual.
Still many undecided. But more democrats undecided than republicans.
My rating for this race is still toss up, tilt D.

What do you define as good?

Better than Tom Tancredo? Yes. But that's a pretty low bar.
Is this the choice between Tancredo and Beauprez, like the choice between Brannon and Tillis? Tongue

And I'm not sure Gardner is a good fit for Colorado, considering his views on abortion. But yep, he's still decent.

So Udall has slightly outraised Gardner.
This race will be competitive!
