The responses to the FCC were over 99% in favor of net neutrality, so I imagine even among non-politician Republicans, it had to be completely overwhelming support.

I don't think so.  I would bet that the vast majority have no idea what net neutrality is. 

Among the Republicans that have heard of it, I'll bet most are against it because they heard about it from talk radio or Fox News.

Yeah, this is a pretty undeniable example of 'opposing it just because Obama's for it' from the Republican political classes.

It's a credit to their foresight then, since they had the same position a decade ago.

Again, this is not merely an anti-Obama position. 

It's a matter of lobbying power.  Silicon valley mostly gives money to Democrats.  Big telecomms are more up for grabs and Republicans benefit by doing their bidding.
