Sam Coppersmith in the 1994 Arizona Senate race against Jon Kyl.  


No.  Tommy Thompson was decrepit and at least partially senile in 2012.  Or maybe he was that bad of a politician in the 1990s, I don't know.  He certainly wasn't a good candidate in 2008 or 2012.
