Would the Green Party be more popular if it wasn't named the "Green" Party?


Most Americans, even progressives, don't see Environmentalism as their #1 issue. They care more about income inequality and the banks, taxes on the rich, anti-discrimination (racism, homophobia, sexism, etc.), campaign reform, infrastructure investment, single-payer healthcare, free college, using government spending to create jobs, human rights, even legalizing marijuana etc. Some of them can be linked to environmentalism, but environmentalism isn't the selling point.

Environmentalism usually only comes up when it's connected with Clean Energy, and even then Clean Energy's ties to other issues like jobs and infrastructure is more emphasized as a selling point that its ties to environmentalism for environmentalism's sake. Progressives say climate change is a concern, but it's not #1, the answer is usually to slap a tax on carbon, invest more in clean energy, and then move on and let it happen. Of course almost everyone says they care about the environment, but environmentalism by itself doesn't sell as well compared to these other issues, doesn't get as many people's passions and energies up.

And the Green Party, basically the party of the more purist progressives who feel the Democratic Party is too center-right, decides to be called the "Green" Party. Putting the environmental first.

Some people might not even know they are NOT a single-issue party.

(also "Green" party would be like calling a socialist party the "Red" party... it doesn't command the same amount of respect as Democratic/Republican/Libertarian).

I know the Green Party has a lot of other issues too. They need better nominees, and need to begin focusing more on local/state races. As well as try and get on the ballot in all 50 states.

But do you also think the Green Party would me more popular if it was named something else? Even something as simple as the "Progressive Party" (though that's probably already taken... though why not merge?) Just something other than the "Green" Party.

Well, the Justice Party, with most of the same policies as the Green Party, did terribly in 2012, though that might have been because it was a one-man political vehicle for Rocky Anderson.

The Green Party already has a much bigger party apparatus compared to other 3rd parties, only the Libertarian Party is bigger. I'm saying it needs to be renamed. We need more mergers among 3rd parties, not more 3rd parties.

Yes, but any remotely accurate title (Left-Populists?) would still be pretty unappealing to the population as a whole. Sure they can call themselves the "Progressive Party" and they'd be more popular, but it wouldn't be appropriate.

Why wouldn't "Progressive Party" be appropriate?

Also, "Justice Party" makes it sound too much like a Trump-ish law & order, death penalty supporting, unforgiving criminal justice system, kind of vibe.
