I bet you his personality differed a great deal from all post WW2 presidents (JC was certainly homespun). When he first went into the WH, and I don't know if this changed or not, but he made it a policy that the place would be "dry," although it was known that people sort of brought their own or had a stash here or there, and it was unacceptable and uncouth not to at least serve champagne or wine at a state dinner. I'm tempted to vote option 2 on that.
