You know, it's one thing if there are classes that are known be easier or whatever that athletes might gravitate to (because they have to play and be coached), but outright unabashed fraud like this is ridiculous, and in an odd way it's predatory. It's also all the more outrageous because you know how competitive the scene is if you're there for academics. That that one professor was not evaluated for over 20 years is absurd. I won't even make a comment about that, but it smacks of the racket that academia can be.

I'd never support ending collegiate athletics. Athletics are an integral part of a university, and some of them make mountains of money, which is why I would support stipends for athletes. This problem is all about culture. Athletes can take courses that aren't rocket science but aren't this complete fraud of a thing either, that's a given. This situation is the product of a heinous culture. You do the time and a minimal level of work, you get the grade. And a coach needs to stay on top of this and be supported by the admin - "Hey, get to class or you sit the first period, quarter, etc."
