It won't cross my desk, but I am no fan of polygamy and no fan of group marriages or whatever term we're using to describe them for a number of sociological reasons - NOT for the reason that that I find it personally distasteful. Setting that aside, there are sociological issues that I have. However, do we want to put something like this in the Constitution? I'll be keenly watching this one. Wink

I would absolutely oppose making marriage rights and marriage issues a totally regional matter. You could conceivably have polygamy and child porn in one region run by libertarians who have run amok and a ban on SSM in another region run by people who want a theocracy, so that positively opens up the potential for a lot of problems.

Incest is a public health matter, though. There's a high degree of risk that children will be brought into the world that are severely handicapped.

There are a host of problems with incest, and it's interesting because if you look that the states in the USA in which it is banned and in which it is legal, there's no real ideological pattern. I strongly suspect that reasonable people will not find fault with incest bans when someone actually brings it up as an issue, the question is whether to use a federal law (preferred) or write it into the constitution (probably not preferred).

If a federal law landed on my desk that banned incest (like this), I would sign it.

I think my PM scores are a little off, particularly social, or reversed. But it is Atlasia. Tongue

Alright, if it gets to referendum, I'll vote in favor. I see the point about wanting to avoid a legal kerfuffle over incest. 'Tis Atlasia.

I mean, this is incredible. Apologies, but it's RL seeping in. Polygamy is illegal in all fifty states and incest definitions / prohibitions exist in many largely because it's not really come up as an issue. No one would argue in FAVOR of incest! If you want to have sex with your sister or your first cousin, I suppose that's your choice, but in terms of legally allowing a marriage, I protest. It's completely off-the-wall bananas to say that something like that should be technically legal.

As to polygamy, polygamy disenfranchises women (almost always) and increases the possibility of inbreeding. I just don't know what some people are thinking (they're not thinking).

Well, if a law passes that bans incest and polygamy (probably won't), I'll sign. There are too many people here who do not understand how unhealthy it is to have a person reproducing with their first cousin or their sibling to enact an amendment, evidently.

I hope child porn isn't legal in the Northeast. Or is it? I don't think things have been pushed that far yet.

If you want to talk about RL seeping in Dem, I would also like to point out that almost no one in RL America would argue in favor of a 20 hour work week.  Hell Dennis Kucinich might be in favor of a 28 hour work week, and that is only so he would have enough time to look for UFOs.

Hey, I'm just saying!

Yeah, or bigfoot, lol. I'm actually against a 20 hour work week as well and in the thread where that was being debated (that bill was tabled) I referenced that the best scenario in the developed world is around 29 hours for a work week. I'd be willing to enact a 28 hour work week for Atlasia, but no lower.

I think it's 32 hours, although someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I've always been told 32. I took a quick look at the statutes and can't really find it.
