U.S. hostage Johnson apparently beheaded
Web site posts photos believed to be body of man held in Saudi Arabia

Friday, June 18, 2004 Posted: 2:06 PM EDT (1806 GMT)

(CNN) -- Three chilling photographs on an Islamist Web site appear to show the beheaded body of American hostage Paul Johnson, who was kidnapped a week ago by Islamic militants connected with al Qaeda.

Abdel Aziz Al-Muqrin, the self-proclaimed military leader of al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia, claimed responsibility for Johnson's kidnapping and the death of another American on the same day on behalf of a group called the Al Falluja Squadron.

On Tuesday, he threatened to kill Johnson in 72 hours unless the Saudi government released al Qaeda prisoners and all Westerners left the Arabian Peninsula.

"We gave you the deadline but you did not respect it," a statement on the Web site said. "This is what we promised to do."

A Saudi security source said, "From our end, we cannot confirm this. We have not found a body yet."

Earlier Friday, Al Arabiya as well as CNN had aired an emotional appeal from Johnson's wife.

U.S. and Saudi investigators concluded an intensive meeting Friday, Saudi officials said, as security forces spread all over the kingdom searching for Johnson.

Johnson, 49, a Lockheed Martin Corp. employee, had been kidnapped Saturday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. He helped maintain U.S.-built Apache helicopter gunships for the Saudi military.

Al Falluja Squadron says it has ties to al Qaeda.

The State Department has urged all Americans to leave Saudi Arabia, but Johnson's sister, Donna Mayeux, said in a CNN interview that her brother "always felt safe in Saudi Arabia."

"My brother is an honorable man," she said. "He has always treated people with dignity and respect."

So, what is if going to take for the Liberals to be as angry about this as they are about Bush?

Nothing.  They're too busy discounting Putin's statements regarding Saddam planning attacks in the US.

Ha, true.  Absolutly amazing.  I did find that on the CNN site though, so....

You (super) are the one who put this sad news in the campaign forum.  Are you suggesting this was somehow related to the upcoming election campaign?  That Bush will use this event in the campaign.

Interesting how the Republicans assume that Democrats will react a certain way without giving them an opportunity to even prove them right.

Obviously this is good news for the Bush campaign.  A scared electorate votes Republican.  It's sickening what the world is coming to, frankly.  I can't believe the horrible things that humans do to each other.  It's been that way forever, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with this kind of thing.

I put it here because this is wear it would get noticed.  And, what was the left's reaction to Nick Berg?  "I was Bush's fault because we shouldn't have been there".

Most people argued no such thing.  Gawdamnit, stop generalizing unless it's true.

Besides, this guy was taken in Saudi Arabia.

Most Lefties don't think we should be in Saudi Arabia.

I still think the best way to handle Iran is to support the groups that are already in the country, that are discontented with the current regime.  I think Iran is a house of cards, all we need to do is support the rebels and thatr government will come crashing down.
