Excerpts from Chairman Yagoda's address to the Congress of Soviets, July 1940

Comrades, I speak to you at perhaps the most pressing time our glorious Union has faced yet. I humbly take on this responsibility as Guardian of all our Republics and shall resolutely correct the mistakes of past. Chairman Kamenev, with willing accomplices, turned a blind eye to the subversion unfolding at our very doorstep. All the while, our patriotic servicemen bleeding and perishing for this nation were left to deal with the fallout of ever-shifting campaigns and shortsighted deals. Let it be known, throughout these halls and across the seas: There shall be no more perversion, and there shall be no more failure!

The proletariat of Europe have been increasingly subjugated to the cabal of oafish, fascist brutes leading the charge against the genocide of the Soviet peoples. For years, their aims against us have been made clear. They seek the partition of our lands, the stripping of our resources, the extermination of our identity! You see, these beasts speak only of repression, and of capital. We are deemed mongrels and degenerates unworthy of existence, down to the very last women and children! They believe the East and other impoverished oases to be merely their pawns for exploitation. They are sorely mistaken on all of these counts. Should the Germans and their partners choose to continue on this murderous rampage, they will soon find that the only "liberation" is to unfold at the hands of their very own workers!

While the fascist colonialists boast of their schemes, arrogance shall be their downfall, comrades! In the name of Marx, of Lenin, and of Marshal Tukhachevsky, the USSR shall be unflinching in its commitment to the revolution! From the rugged Caucasus, to the expansive Siberia, to the heart of Russia, we live and breathe as one! The underbelly of the West has now exposed itself, and we shall march to defend our lands and vanquish the rot of these malignant forces once and for all!

Onward to victory! Onward to glory!

The Frunze Address

Flanked by a number of senior NKVD/Red Army loyalists, along with prominent Trotskyite and Tukhachevist delegates, Chairman Yagoda provided the following remarks to newly trained troops ready for deployment at Frunze Military Academy in Moscow:

Men and women of our Soviet Armed Forces, you have proved yourselves of valor and fortitude through the rigorous training all of you have plunged into for the service of our Motherland. Now, as you leave these halls and take on the frontlines of battle, you will demonstrate how the Soviet state continues to shine as the mighty bear of the world never to be reckoned with!

There is much I see when I look into your eyes: fury, resilience, even hope. All these feelings are justified as we have witnessed the progression of this war. Already the Axis forces under the crook Hugenberg have resorted to poison bombardment of our plains, believing that to be the only way of ravaging our home and breaking the revolutionary spirit. Masked in these poison gasses, comrades, is a profound stench of desperation more apparent by the day.

We have much to be proud of in our advances, growing stronger with each footstep forward. Watch as the Western pigs weep over the loss of their precious Hungarian poodle! The forces of evil in Budapest have fled, hoping on their false gods of Hugenberg and Mussolini to enact retribution. Now that the people of Hungary have been liberated, the only retribution from this point on shall be for the torment and imprisonment the fascists have inflicted over the past decade. Be it the Dutch, the Czechs, or the many peoples of former Yugoslavia, the workers of Europe shall all be free!

Comrades, I believe in each and every one of you to carry out your duties with unbelievable ability. We are facing a War of Revolution just as we are a War of Survival. There is no separation between the two, for socialism is to thrive as socialism is to grow. Our families and our communities, no matter where your origins lie in the USSR, are all counting on us for relentless victory. We shall not fail!

Long live the Revolution! Long live our Soviet Republics! Fight with might for the Motherland and for all oppressed peoples of the world!

Treaty of Damascus

1. Under cases of aggression, invasion, and other violations of sovereignty, the Soviet Union shall aid in the defense of the Syrian Arab Republic.

2. Tariffs between the Soviet Union and Syrian Arab Republic shall be reduced on essential goods.

3. Consultation on matters of improving national infrastructure shall be provided by the Soviet Union at the discretion of the Syrian Arab Republic.

4. Refugee and emigration programs for members of the Jewish and Kurdish communities residing within Syrian territory shall be sponsored for relocation to safe grounds within Soviet territory.
