From the Senate:

District 4 Senate Announcement

From home in Arlington, yesterday evening, I made a statement to the effect that for health reasons (yes, I'm still recouperating from that miserable assassination attempt on my life), I would be delaying my decision whether or not to seek re-election for the District 4 Senate seat

However, given that Josh22 has declared his candidacy and now Mike Naso, who having thought Texas was in District 5 and so declared he was running for District 5, has now signalled "District 4 here I come", it seems that I can't allow the grass to grow under my feet so to say

Therefore, I'm officially proud to announce that, I the serving District 4 Senator, will be seeking re-election as District 4 Senator. Thus, far my time in the Senate, has been both a joy and a privilege and it would be indeed be a great honor were I to be successfully elected for a further term

Vote Dave 'What you see is what you get' Hawk for a strong voice in the Senate

At the end of the day, you people matter more to me than my health

Good Bless you all, God Bless District 4, the Southeast Region and Atlasia

Thank you Smiley

First of all, thanks Smiley to all, who have posted messages of support and endorsement. It means a helluva Grin lot to me

Good luck Dave.  Needless to say, you have the full support and endorsement of the Christian Democratic Party.  Smiley

Whatever happens, don't let Mike Naso 'Nym90' you out of office because of complacency on your part.

I'd like to thank my party for its continuing support and encouraged. Rest assured there will be no complacency on my part since I won't suffer it and that from a guy, who could be, simultaneously, running for office for real

In the meantime, I will continue to represent, and serve, my District for the duration of the Twelfth Senate and, all being well, then some Smiley

I have redesignated this thread, which contains my declaration to seek re-election as District 4 Senator, as my Campaign HQ, which is in Albany, Georgia

Once again, thanks Smiley for the endorsement and support I have received thus far

Speech from Albany, Georgia:

Well I think it’s only right that I issue a response to a one or two comments former Senator Naso has levelled at me. Firstly, he says “Hawk has stayed in the race...because he "can't have grass grow under his feet." Whatever the excuse, it is clear his first intention was not to run to serve, but rather to run to hold power of his liberal agenda”

Well for the record, I had not intended to declare until Monday 10th; but given your announcement, and at that time, Josh, had too declared, I decided there and that I have a campaign to fight and win. My intention is to serve, always has been always will be. And what liberal agenda? If I was define myself, ideologically, if anything, I’m mildly populist with a communitarian streak, who is tough on defense

Perhaps it's my liberal agenda, which has secured the endorsement of Senator MasterJedi and the support of Governor Festoon, who are leading Atlasian conservatives

He goes on to say that “The areas of District Four deserve an open-minded government, with moral values and strong leadership” . Indeed, that is something, on which, we can agree. Furthermore, I am that guy Smiley

I'm open-minded. I seek common ground with Senators of all ideological inclinations and partisan affiliation and I always will. And yes, I have moral values too as evident in my political and, former, business activity. That's why I'm a Christian Democrat. As for strong leadership, I have been resolute in my tough stance on the Puerto Rico Crisis to the point that it almost cost me my life and resolute in my opposition to radical defense spending cuts that had been proposed by former Senator TexasGurl

Do you know? Throughout my last campaign, I seldom referred to my opponent, Bono, and even then it was largely complimentary, such as paying tribute to his honorable campaign, despite profound ideological differences between us. I'll tell you why. It's because I focused on my vision, not Bono’s, where I stood on the issues, not Bono, what I would seek to do as a Senator, not Bono. Thus, I fought a very optimistic and upbeat campaign

Questioning my commitment is one thing I’m not letting my opponent get away with. My advice for my opponent is for him to start addressing the issues. For now, however, following such inaccurate remarks on his part I felt it necessary to issue a rebuttal

I can only speak for myself but I have no intention of fighting a negative campaign and I’d like to think that my opponent will concur with me on that but to question my commitment is over the line. Even those, who disagree with me, can’t take that away from me

Remember with me, what you see is what you get and you can be rest assured that I, for one, with never sell-out the interests of District 4. It is those constituents I have been elected to represent and, as God is my witness, that’s jolly well what I do and will continue to do

Vote Hawk to enable me to continue to work, with others, towards taking District 4, the Southeast and Atlasia forward. Remember I’m not in politics for myself, but for you guys Smiley. I will always champion the cause of, and argue the case for, morally responsible and socially conscious capitalism

This is just to say that if Naso would like to engage with me in a debate or series of debates (possibly three), then I'm more than happy to oblige

Naso is accusing Hawk of having a "liberal agenda"?

That's a new one.

Aye, but will Naso's assumptions (and that's all they can be) hold under scrutiny? My rebuke of my opponent was more a respnse to he questioning my commitment. I've never really thought of myself as a liberal or a conservative

where do you stand on women rights? Also where do you stand on gay rights?

Well, I oppose affirmative action on behalf of any group when it comes to employment opportunities. Women should achieve in life on their own merits and not on the basis of them being women. That said, I take a pretty grim view of discrimination be it affirmative or prejudicial in its essence

As far as gay rights go, I support same-sex civil unions/partnerships but not same-sex marriage. As far as gay adoption rights are concerned, I lean in favor but as of now I'm not committed to such an objective. I think this, primarily, is a matter to be determined at the regional, rather than federal, level of government

From Montgomery, Alabama:

Fellow Atlasians,

I'm on my last whistle-stop tour of District Four taking in Montgomery, Alabama, Plant City Florida and, finally, Memphis Tennessee before returning to Nyman

Basically, I want to reaffirm what a great honor and privilege it has been to both represent, and serve, District 4 in the Twelfth Senate

I think most would agree that I've been a tenacious and hard-working senator, serving with both dignity and respect. Furthermore, I have remained true to myself and the very same man, who was running for office back in those days last November and December

As a senator, I have endeavoured to form several close working relationships with all my esteemed colleagues; however, I feel that the great statesmen, Senator's MasterJedi (ACA), WMS (CDP) and Yates (ILP) deserve special mention. Futhermore, I have come to value their personal and political friendship Smiley

The one regret I have is that I have been unable to wage a re-election campaign as intense and robust as my last one. There are two reasons for this; firstly, being the incumbent, I have been busy with Senate affairs and secondly, I remain under hospital orders to take things gently. And for that, I most, humbly, apologise

Nevertheless, I will continue to work on more legislative initiatives, which I hope to realise for the remainder of the Twelfth Senate and, all being well, the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Senates. I feel that given the opportunity to serve a full term of office, I will be well positioned to accomplish much more

That said, I have no regrets about the term-split agreement, I reached with than Co-Senator elect Bono. It was the fair and just thing to do, which is why I say loud and clear that should this election between myself and, former Senator, Mike Naso result in a tie, I will be more than willing to negotiate like . However, I most sincerely hope that the voters of District 4 have sufficient confidence in me to elect me for a full-term

What I have sought to be is a committed senator, committed to the interests of District 4, as well as to the wider national interest. You can be rest assured that in me, District 4 will continue to have a strong voice in the Senate. Consensus building guy as I am, you can be rest assured that I'll sharp kick into firebrand Grin mode, when it comes to defending our Districts best interests. You have my word on that

Finally, I'd like to thank all the individuals and political parties of Atlasia, who have enforced my campaign: Vice President Q; Mideast Governor Afleitch of the FDP; Northeast Governor Fezzy Festoon of the ACA; Southeast Governor Cosmo Kramer of the CDP; Midwest Lt Governor Speed of Sound of the SDP; Southeast Lt Governor Josh of the CDP; Mideast Senator MasterJedi of the ACA; Midwest Senator Yates of the ILP and Pacfic Senator WMS of the CDP. Lucy and I extend our most sincere best wishes Smiley and thanks Smiley to you all

I would also like to thank each and every member of the Atlasian Conservative Party, the Independent Liberal Party, the Social Democratic Party and, last, but by no means least, my own Christian Democratic Party. It is, indeed, a great honor to accept the endorsement of all four of these great parties. It's testament to be calibre and stature that I am able to do so. Many thanks

So, I urge that you, the voters of District 4, re-elect me as your most honored representative in the Atlasian Senate. Allow me to urge a word of caution to my supporters, however, don't be complacent and please ensure you vote

Thanks to you all

God Bless you all and God Bless Atlasia
