Aye - I'm vehemenently opposed to all forms of discrimination (and yes, I include affirmative action)

What about competence?  Isn't only hiring a person you perceive as competent a form of discrimination?

No, I think the issue of competence, whether an applicant is more capable or more qualified, than other applicants, to do the job for which they have applied should be form the basis of the decision for whom to employ or not. It should have nowt to do with age,  gender, race, physical attractiveness, sexual orientation, weight, .....

Rather than having separate anti-discrimination legislation for different groups, would it not be more feasible to have a uniform Good Employment Practices Act, to which all employers adhere, which covers, among other things, recruitment?
