Best case scenario for Clark and most of his electoral votes would be in close contests [i.e. pink states]

There is no way Clark can defeat Powell.  Powell would win since he can pull Democratic votes.  Clark cannot pull Republican votes.

Which is why marginal Democratic states in 2004 would go Powell's way in 2008

It would be another defensive election andit would be a poor defence at that - Powell is near certain to score some big goals like Pennsylvania and Michigan
