Peters is the kind of candidate Democrats need to think about if they want to win in 2020. He's RESPECTABLY Liberal, and his liberalism is the sort that working class folks look for in a Presidential candidate. If the Democrats want to nominate a "new face", then Peters is, IMO, their LEADING new face.
Peters is a guy who wins the votes Democrats need to recapture the White House. He's the closest thing to Joe Biden that's fresh and in his prime age. And he'd be the perfect running mate for Biden, if Biden were the 2020 nominee.
The biggest barrier to Peters' candidacy is that his Senate seat is up in 2020. Peters, however, is more than an up-and-coming star; he's a star in his prime political years. I'll say this; Hillary Clinton MIGHT have been elected if Peters had been her running mate.
Problem was a Republican Governor.
To try to direct this thread into semi-seriousness, Peters' 2014 landslide win was quite impressive given it was an open seat race and Democrats were getting massacred left and right on Election Night.
I don't think Democrats would have too much problem holding this seat if it were open in 2020, but Peters makes it pretty close to safe to where the DSCC wouldn't have to spend any money that they could instead focus on CO, NC, ME (if open), defending NH, MT, AK, and maybe IA and GA.
Is he running? Or is this a trial balloon thread?
