I don't think anyone even particularly cares if Trump is devoted to socially conservative causes out of personal belief. All most care about is that Trump opposes "political correctness" and will assist their side on policy matters. Nobody save the most delusional ever truly believed he was some devout Christian or well versed in traditionally conservative moral issues.

Trump has also come to project the image of intense patriotism. This is a feature of most Evangelical Churches these days. Sadly, many Evangelicals give more honor to our troops than they do to their missionaries, many of whom risk their lives to spread His Gospel.
