Republicans fight day and night to allow gay people to be turned away from businesses, but if a person who chooses a certain profession is discriminated against (cop), its the end of the world. Neither group should have to worry about being denied service, but it is hypocrisy to praise one and denounce the other.
The Supreme Court already decided the rights of persons to be served in restaurants in
Katzenbach v. McClung.
As to the cake bakers: Do business owners have the right to refuse to produce items that make statements their consciences cannot abide? If not, would a flag-maker be obligated to make Nazi flags? Would a signmaker be obliged to print signs for an alt-right rally? This isn't Ollie's BBQ or the Pickrick Restaurant where the establishment refused to serve blacks, period.
The cake baker's business is not a public accomodation, as a restaurant is. If they won't bake a cake for someone because they're gay, that's one thing. If they'll bake a cake for someone who's gay, but not create cakes with certain content, is that not a different issue? If they can't say "no" to a gay wedding cake, how can they say "no" to an alt-right event? That's a serious question, and because you sympathize with one and not the other isn't a principled answer to a question of principle.
