Charlottesville is the bigger negative.
Trump was right on Charlottesville; the primary problem there was the need to restore law and order for the folks who did not wish to act like jackasses and wished only that they be able to live in peace in their town. People didn't understand the role of Antifa on the day of the demonstration, however; they just understood "Nazis" and "Klansman" and "counterdemonstrators". (Really, what are "counterdemonstrators" there for but to provoke extremists to violence?) Had he merely stuck to the law and order line without going onto the "both sides" bit, he'd have gotten out of there OK.
Trump's now in a "When did you stop beating your wife?" zone on this issue. I don't believe Trump is a racist, white supremacist, alt-right carrier of ringworm and jock itch, but I want to bang my head every time I see Trump not grasp the need for just a wee bit of sensitivity here. Trump's put himself in a position of having to prove a negative on this aspect of his image, and he needs to be sincere AND sensitive on this issue.
