Trump will not run for the GOP nomination in 2020.

Trump's nomination this year represents a hostile takeover of the GOP Presidential nominating process.  Trump did not, however, achieve a takeover of the entire Republican Party.  They're stuck with him for now, and most Republicans have opted to make the best of it.

I guarantee you that after Trump loses, and maybe even if he wins, the GOP will amend its rules to the effect of having its own "Superdelegates" or something like this.  They will ensure "No More Trumps!" (i. e. "No More Unapproved Party-Crashers!") and rig the rules to ensure that.  They will ensure that the nominee is chosen fast and early and is not going to be someone off the chain.

What the GOP is probably dreading is the possibility that Trump runs as an Independent in 2020.  This is not a likely event, IMO, but Trump is a guy who'll take his revenge if he has a large enough axe to grind.  I can't imagine he wouldn't relish taking revenge on some #NeverTrumper being the 2020 GOP nominee.  Still, Trump's a guy that has a life outside of politics, so his disappearing into the sunset is a very likely outcome.
