They should do better. Libertarians are the biggest block of completely unrepresented voters in the country (especially this cycle), so if Johnson or whoever runs a semi-decent campaign, he should motivate them.

They are underrepresented, but most libertarians are economic libertarians first.  As such, most will continue to vote Republican.
