Trump is a known quantity.  He's had "trophy wives", three of them; he's the John Derek of Presidential candidates. 

One of the reasons this stuff doesn't hurt Trump is the fact that he's never moralized to others as to how they should lead their lives.  He's not tried to be Pastor Don, or one of the minions of Dr. James Dobson or Phyllis Schlafly, and he's not been a tut-tutter when others are caught naked with their staff assistants.  He's not lectured folks on political correctness, or even good manners.  Even in his Man Cave "boardroom" when he lectures one of his apprentices on a flub, it's not about "morals"; it's about damage to his "brand".  He's not held to that standard because (A) he's a known quantity, and (B) he doesn't profess to hold people to hold others to such a standard.

Why did the removal of Bill Clinton fall apart?  In no small part, it fell apart because of the progressive revelations of sexual immorality on the part of those aggressively pursuing his impeachment and removal.  Newt Gingrich's past actions became news.  Bob Livingston's affairs were exposed.  Even Henry Hyde, a giant in the fight against abortion, was raked over the coals for a four year affair with a married woman who's marriage broke up in the middle of her affair; the affair did not end until two (2) years after the woman divorced when her then ex-husband confronted Mrs. Hyde.  The aggrieved ex-husband took out an ad saying "This Hypocrite Broke Up My Family" and Hyde, who was 41 when he started "stepping out" on his spouse, chalked the matter up to a "youthful indiscretion".

Folks hold "Bible Thumpers" and those who cater to the "religious right" to a higher standard because they set themselves up to be.  In a way, they do the same with candidates like Hillary who present an alternative morality in their way.  When they're caught naked, they're revealed as "not moral".  Trump, on the other hand, is conspicuously amoral.  Whether or not someone is sneaking off to motels or doing it in their office with someone other than their spouse is of little interest to Trump; he's not in the lecturing business.

This is telling, because religious and social conservatives are not repulsed by Trump; he's getting his share of such folks in the polls.  Perhaps we've gotten to a point where people are beyond getting bent out of shape if someone has had an affair or two or three or . . . well you get the idea.  It's a sad commentary on America that we're at this point, but Trump, at least, is not the hypocrite some of these folks are.  In that way, Trump is actually refreshing (to a point).
