2014 is a sh**t year for Australia, between tragic events and incompetent leadership - has anything good happened in Australia this year?

I've met Frydenberg and can confirm he is a massive douche. He was also creepily in love with Abbott and believes him to be the next Menzies.

Like this makes me happy but I cannot fathom how 500 days in the Libs have managed to achieve almost nothing!?

are they really reviving the debate over industrial relations? Seeing as it completely sunk a pretty competent Liberal leader, I don't see why Abbott thinks he can do any better...?

This Government has utterly lost the plot. You have to wonder, with all these self-inflicted wounds, if they actually want to win.

No, but they have reached their goal, changing the country. They know ALP is too cowardly to go back on those changes.

lol the country is in no way different to what it was in 2013. The ALP has already promised to bring back a carbon tax, scrap changes to welfare and have basically promised to end off shore processing.

or Turnball, I assume they'll want to avoid a vote and get Tony to resign as leader if possible.

About a 6% swing to Labor in Davenport by-election putting the traditional Liberal seat to a 2% margin.

Given the result, Brough looks like he could go ahead with that challenge.

Wouldn't he have way too much baggage though?

Jane Prentice all but said that Tony's time is ticking refusing to deny there would be a challenge.

Based on Shorten's performance on Insiders he just sort of pleaded ignorance of the internal struggles of the LNP and stressed that changing leaders wouldn't change the underlying problem - that people didn't like their policies.

This is mostly true but changing leaders does give the LNP enough time to revamp and start again.

So... the plot thickens.

Turnbull (who is still overseas) said he supports the Prime Minister and will not be challenging.

He probably doesn't have the numbers.

This is ridiculous now... Abbott is refusing to go, Turnbull is refusing to challenge...

His position is untenable now. The situation of a stalking-horse challenge, followed by his resignation and a spill is looking more and more likely.

Just watch Morrison come swooping in. ugh, that would just be the worst.

Isn't there a decent chance that Abbott is couped later this year, and the government then wins back enough support under Turnbull (or whoever) to win reelection?

They're all damaged goods though, like Turnball and Bishop look just as awful as Tony atm.

That's pretty ing disgraceful of Bishop, like I mean I hate everything Hockey says but does she not realise it's a team game? You don't succeed in politics by publicly insinuating your distaste for a person, you keep it in caucus.

It's more about the bouncy-ness of Newspoll (47-53, 45-55, 49-51) with no significant external factors and Abbott's approval still in the toilet AND Shortens being more closely aligned with his party's standings ... wha?

I struggle to believe the electorate is this fickle.
