Washoe?

I could have sworn I put it in my post, but anyway, no it's Nez Perce County in North Central Idaho.  Solidly Democratic except for the occasional Republican landslide.  Then it switched over.  Kerry did better then Gore though.

Of course, Kerry got 3% better then Gore in the state.  I do not know exactly why though.

Idaho as a whole has just gotten more Republican.  Several counties in the North that routinely went for Democrats before 2000 have now become solidly Republican in Presidential elections.  Here's the last few election results in the county:

1996
Bill Clinton (Dem)    7,491    44.87%
Bob Dole (Rep)    6,675    39.87%
Ross Perot (Ref)    2,385    14.28%

2000
George W Bush (Rep)   10577   66.02%
Al Gore (Dem)      4995   31.18%

2004
George W Bush (Rep)      11009   62.20%
John F Kerry (Dem)      6476   36.59%

I think it was trending Republican before 2000, but the Perot factor  gave it to Clinton.  The local Democratic commitee is making a comeback, we hold all but two or three county wide offices.

According to the census bureau:

2000 Idaho Hispanic population:
101,690

2003 Idaho Hispanic population:
110,604

A growth of 9,000.  I think this is primarily in the southern regions, I have not seen much growth of the Hispanic population in the north.

Just as a point of information:

2004 Idaho statewide result:
Bush    409,235  68.4%
Kerry   181,098   30.3%
Nader      1,115    0.2%

2000 Idaho statewide result:
Bush  336,937  67.2%
Gore  138,637  27.6%
Nader  12,292    2.5%

Both candidates increased their percentages.  So basically third parties were not even a factor in this election and most of Nader's 2000 voters went to Kerry.  (As a note, Nader was not officially on the ballot either year.)
